About Volume Calculation
Three-dimensional volume measurements are superior to two-dimensional measurements for anatomical and pathological structures. Structures can have irregular shapes, where a single dimension might be disproportionate.
Normal Volume Ranges
- Kidney: 110-190 ml (men), 90-150 ml (women)
- Prostate: 20-30 ml (adult)
- Testicle: 13-30 ml (adult)
- Thyroid: 5-10 ml per lobe
- Spleen: 150-350 ml
- Ovary: 3-8 ml
- Non-pregnant uterus: 40-80 ml
Formula Variations
- General Ellipsoid: 0.523 × L × W × H
- Bladder: 0.625 × L × W × H
- Testicle: Ellipsoid (0.523) or Lambert's (0.71)
- Prostate: Standard (0.523) or Bullet (0.65)
Note: Volume is measured in milliliters (ml) or cubic centimeters (cc), which are equivalent units (1 ml = 1 cc).
